Jerusalem Hand painted Ceramic Pottery Trinket Dish Bowl Beautiful Colors 6"x3”
Unsigned. Made by Armenian pottery in Jerusalem.
The Armenian pottery workshop in Jerusalem was founded in 1919, at the end of WWI, when the British invited the Iznik master potter David Ohannessian to help with the restoration of the tiles of the Dome of the rock mosque in Jerusalem. The workshop produced ceramics in the traditional Iznik style.
The Balian Family of Jerusalem has been producing exclusive hand painted ceramic tiles and pottery since 1922. The Balkan Ceramics is the only studio in Jerusalem producing their own ceramic ware and tiles by methods handed over to them by grandparents and parents. Their pottery has also been the subject of numerous articles in magazines and newspapers worldwide.
Each individual item is hand made, fired, then hand painted using metallic and oxidised paint in order to keep its natural colour. It is then finished with a fine glaze that gives it its attractive appearance before being re-fired to harden the glaze.
A wonderful and quite colorful heirloom gift from Israel.
Includes a metal holder to hang on the wall.
Approximately 6” by 3” by 1 1/2” deep.
