Hanukkah menorah, also known as a Hanukiah or Chanukiah. It is a nine-branched candelabrum used during the eight-day Jewish holiday of Hanukkah, with the ninth holder (the shamash, or "helper" candle) used to light the others.
This beautiful 1950s to 60s Hanukkah Menorah was made in Israel by European
immigrants the Dayagi brothers.
The central arch is composed of shield-shaped emblems, each representing one of the 12 Tribes of Israel. The central cutout depicts two figures carrying a large cluster of grapes on a pole. This is a biblical motif referring to the spies sent by Moses to scout the Land of Canaan, who returned with a cluster so large it required two men to carry it. The base features the word "SHALOM" (Hebrew for "peace") in red enameled lettering.
Verdigris enamel and gold tone brass.
